1. The Mugger Crocodile, also known as the Indian freshwater crocodile, is one of the few crocodile species that can tolerate both freshwater and saltwater habitats. They are native to the Indian subcontinent and can be found in rivers, lakes, swamps, and estuaries.
2. Mugger Crocodiles are medium-sized crocodiles, with males growing up to 13-15 feet long, while females are slightly smaller, usually measuring around 8-10 feet in length. Despite their size, they are known for being less aggressive than some other crocodile species.
3. These crocodiles have a distinctive broad snout and thick bony plates on their back called scutes. These scutes provide protection to the crocodile's vulnerable underbelly when in shallow water or on land. Mugger Crocodiles have a dark brown or black coloration with scattered dark spots or blotches on their body.
