1. The Great Indian Hornbill (Buceros bicornis) is one of the largest hornbill species found in the Indian subcontinent. They measure approximately 95 to 130 cm (37 to 51 inches) in length, with a wingspan of about 150 cm (59 inches).
2. Known for their distinct appearance, Great Indian Hornbills have a large yellowish casque, which is a hollow structure on the upper beak. The casque acts as a resonating chamber, enhancing the bird's calls. Males usually have larger casques than females.
3. Habitat destruction and hunting have led to the decline of Great Indian Hornbill populations. They primarily inhabit the canopy levels of evergreen and mixed deciduous forests, as well as hilly and mountainous regions. These birds are found in India, Bhutan, Nepal, and parts of Southeast Asia.
