1. The Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) is the largest land animal in Asia and the second largest land animal in the world after the African elephant. They can reach a shoulder height of up to 9.8 feet (3 meters) and weigh between 4,900 and 12,000 pounds (2,200 to 5,400 kilograms).
2. Asian elephants have a distinctively rounded forehead compared to the African elephants, which have a concave forehead. They also have smaller, rounder ears compared to their African counterparts.
3. These elephants have a highly social nature and live in herds, typically consisting of females and their offspring. Adult males are mostly solitary or join herds temporarily during mating seasons. They are known for their strong social bonds and cooperative behavior.
